A Cryptex is a special container which has mechanical combination lock (rotating rings with letters or digits), which people used hundreds years ago to keep secrets. Inside the cylinder there’s a container, where you can keep piece of paper with secret data. Today it’s better to use a USB flash drive for data storage.
The Cryptex USB flash drive was engineered in the accordance with original sketches of Leonardo Da Vinci.
The mechanical combination lock protects your digital data. You need to know 5-digit code to get access to the USB flash drive hidden inside. Only the person who has the password can use it. A great way not only to protect the information, but also to add an element of a game into everyday life.
While in a steampunk style, it will also appeal to people who like gadgets that are different and/or focal points. Please note, the code is NOT changeable

This comes in a good presentation box (see photo 1). This is important if it is a gift – it makes a difference. Some items come in brown cardboard boxes.
Inside the box you get the cryptex plus a small instruction manual and a black drawstring bag made from what looks to me like felt, though it does not feel as soft as felt (photo 2).

The code to open the cryptex is on the box. One side of the cryptex is different to the rest – it has a raised area (see where the pen is pointing in photo 5). You enter the code by rotating each barrel, as on a combination padlock, so that the code lines up with those protrusions. The core, containing the USB drive, then slides out (photo 7).
You can see 4 protrusions on the core (photo 7) – when you rotate the numbers, all you are doing is lining up an internal groove so that the protrusions can slide through it.
You cannot reset the code.

The item is significantly heavier than a normal USB drive. This gives it the impression of quality.
This is very unusual. The antique effect is convincing and I have to say that I like it.

|I really can’t get over how much I love this!!,
Once I had opened the box I was impressed to see that the cryptex is stored in a lovely, velvet drawstring pouch (as pictured below).
The cryptex itself is quite weighty, it feels nice and solid in your hand and I honestly feel like this will stand the test of time (even if I drop it…. which is quite inevitable really!!) I particularly like the leather handle- as it greatly reduces the chance of the of me dropping it.
The cryptex is supplied with a combination code on the inside of the box and a sticker that denotes the code on the end of the device. There is no way of changing this code so it’s quite important you don’t lose it! (I’ve popped the code into the notes section on my phone as it is inevitable that I will misplace the box eventually!) The code is a little fiddly to line up, however once you have got this in line the USB is immediately released and ready for use (the exposed USB is also pictured below).
USB wise this device works brilliantly, it fits into my computer well, with no force needing to be applied to it (always a relief when you don’t have to battle with a USB!) My work is securely saved and I am confident in using the crpytex for it’s intended purposes.
All in all this is a fantastic looking usb that has become a real talking point in my classroom. It doesn’t take up much space in my bag, nor does it weigh me down. I’m very impressed with this device and would recommend it to all who ask.

|Secure and Smart looking USB storage!,
First impressions:
The Cryptex secure USB comes well packaged and immediately fills you with confidence that you are in possession of a quality item. The USB feels well built and ergonomically pleasing in the hand. It’s nicely weighted and looks smart like somthing out if the davinci code. The instructions are clear and you are using this device securely in no time.
I was really impressed with how simple yet effective this device is. It really shows Cryptex have been thinking about the end user.
Final verdict:
What Cryptex have done is provided a well built, easy to use and most importantly secure USB drive. 32GB is a generous amount of storage and more than enough for my needs. This item is perfect for accountants or anyone who travels with sensitive electronic data. I definitely recommend this product!
